Welcome back to school, Room 15!

Thank you for a great day!

It is sooooo good to have you back. We had a fabulous day getting back into a new routine with new seating arrangements. The soap, spray and sanitizer were flowing and the chatting was a joy to listen to. We are looking forward to a great week of learning.

Our last day of distance learning!
Welcome back to school on Monday.

Thank you to you, everyone, for engaging in your learning at home. Whether you followed the Distance Learning Programme or did your own thing, we thank you for staying home and helping New Zealand get to Level 2 so quickly. To the parents and caregiver who supported our learners, to the families that learned important lessons of being together every day, to the children who were on their own and learned to keep yourself busy with no one to play with and those who were worried about other members of the family they could see...thank you all. Your sacrifice was huge and very much valued.

Getting ready:

  • School uniform (if you are waiting for new shoes - you may wear others until you are able to get them)
  • School jacket (it is cooler these days)
  • School hat
  • PE gear (every day just in case)
  • Drink Bottle (named)
  • Morning Tea
  • Lunch
  • Stationery (pens - red, blue, green; rubber; pencil; ruler; colouring pencils)
  • Can or jar (with your name to keep the items together on your small desk space)
  • Device (fully charged or bring your charger - name on both!)
  • Novel (chapter book) to read during SSR
  • Energy for learning
  • A smile
Enjoy your day - keep up the great work and get set for school on Monday. I really look forward to seeing you all again. Have a wonderful weekend - stay safe and well.

Day 20 Distance Learning...Level 2 at last!

We will be so excited to get out of our bubbles and start exploring the world outside our homes again! We'll need to catch up on things that need sorting out after 7 weeks and get ourselves ready for face/face school. Let us know what you have enjoyed getting back into! What have you found you missed the most?

Have a great day - remember to still do some quality learning! Have fun!

Day 19 of distance learning & the last day of Alert Level 3!!
Go Aotearoa New Zealand...
Keep being safe and kind around everyone you meet.

What an exciting day - the last one of lockdown and family bubbles. It has been a long wait, but thank you each one for doing your part in keeping our most vulnerable safe. We all need to be proud of what we have achieved.

Today, we share LOTS of learning with you. The messages are around getting prepared for face/face returning to school and for being back into routines that support your learning. Being organised and thinking about how to look after your own things - we won't be sharing personal items. Look for a can or jar to decorate for your pens/pencils and get a drink bottle that doesn't leak named.

We look forward to catching up at 11:00 am and 11:30 am today for Groups 1 and 2. The timetable of new groups was emailed to your school inbox at the start of the week.

Day 18! Thinking Tuesday...

Level 2 is on the horizon! We are looking forward to planning with you for our return to school. Think about having a container (can or jar) to put on your desk for your pens, pencils and a ruler. (Decorated with your name!) We will make sure that you only use your own stationery, so we need to be organised. You will also need to bring your own device (fully charged) every day so that we are not sharing equipment.

If, during this lockdown, you are out of routine, work on getting back to going to bed early and rising earlier so that you are 'school ready' for Monday. Also, keep practising your safe hygiene habits and keeping your hands away from your face! That will be tough!

Week 5...here we go!

A new Weeks 5 and 6 Distance Learning Slide Deck can be found on our 'Learning At Home' page above. Today's video highlights the key activities you may like to engage with. Have fun - plan your week to try and cover at least one activity from each of the Learning Areas.

Your regular learning sites also have work in them to engage with:
Check out the new reading assignments in ReadWorks: A paired set of texts (one of each opinion), an article 'A Good Night' and a narrative fiction piece 'The Magic Glasses'. Use your Book of Knowledge to post three bullet points of your main ideas in your own words (summarising and paraphrasing).

There are a number of assignments in Mathletics, too. If you haven't been doing those - please make sure you do. They will be a great place to start when we get back. They are levelled and some may be harder than others, as you use this as a review. Please reach out for help if you need help.

Happy Friday. Day  16 of distance learning.
Welcome to our Mother's Day special!

We love and celebrate the wonderful women in our lives. To the women who are our mums and to those whose roles it is to care and support us like a mum - THANK YOU!

Today we have put together a special Mother's Day 'Sharing of Learning' - we hope that you enjoy it.

We have also had a HUGE number of other items of learning shared with us, so this is a double episode. Twice the enjoyment. Thank you, Room 15. You are truly amazing. Thank you, too, for the wonderful comments you are leaving on our Blog. As I have said before: good learning needs a good audience. Thank you for encouraging each other. Sign your name (first name only) so we know it is you.

Happy Wednesday!

We are halfway through our week...this is going fast! Please have your special contributions for Friday's Sharing Slide deck sent in by 4pm on Thursday. A card, a poem, a song, a memoir of a special time or a piece of art...sometime special for your mum.

Also, today, please read the first few slides of our Sharing of Learning slide deck below so that you can make sure you are doing what it says. The challenge for you is to leave a comment on BOTH the 'Class Blog' AND our 'Learning At Home' page. Keep the comments positive and supportive of our learning - maybe someone's work really stood out for you and you want to make a comment. We can't wait to read them - remember they are posted for everyone to read!

Friday 1 May 2020

Term 2 Week 3 May 1, 2020

Happy Friday!

We hope you have a fantastic day and a wonderful weekend. Remember we will try and connect at 1:00 pm with the whole class!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing the huge amount of learning you have been doing. We have a lot to share today - yay!! The easiest way of sharing your learning with me is on Google Slides - you can include your writing, photos and videos on a slide. It is so easy for me to move that into our daily Sharing of Learning from there. Thank you to those of you who already do that!

During our Student Meets next week, I would love each of you to share one piece of learning - including a reflection.

The reflection should include:
  • what did I learn,
  • what did I think I did well and
  • what would I do differently if I did it again?
We look forward to these meets to re-connect again.
